With a growing world population, limited natural resources and consumers who take a greater interest in the provenance of goods, companies need to come up with innovative approaches to the way they operate. Reflecting these needs, and the integration of safety, sustainability and good business practices, the 2020 DuPont Safety and Sustainability Awards will celebrate organizations of all sizes from around the world that have successfully implemented innovative ways of safeguarding employees, communities and the environment, while also contributing to the economic and social health of society.
The DuPont Safety and Sustainability Awards, brought to you by DuPont Sustainable Solutions (DSS), encourages companies to share examples of their successful approaches. Through formal recognition of these achievements, we believe that the awards can drive positive change and promote best practices in safety, sustainability and operations.
In 2020, the DuPont Safety & Sustainability Awards program features three distinct categories.
Safety Innovation Award: This Award recognizes the approaches taken to ensure the safety and health of employees within the workplace, including hazard identification and mitigation, as well as safety training and education that have led to significant, permanent advances in safety performance.
Operations Improvement: This Award recognizes innovative management techniques, principles, systems and tools aimed at continuous, sustainable improvements in operating efficiencies and asset uptime, quality, consistency.
Sustainability Award: This Award recognizes responsible, proactive decision-making and innovation that minimizes the corporate footprint and creates lasting change that benefits the environment we live and work in.

History of the Awards
This initiative began as the DuPont Safety Award in 2002 with the purpose of stimulating individual or collective initiatives for safety enhancement and accident prevention in the EMEA region and evolved into its current format – a global initiative dedicated to improving safety, reducing footprint and driving efficiency within industrial operations – in 2015. This change was made in recognition of the increasingly interconnected nature of innovative operational improvement programs. Over the years, the number and focus of categories were adjusted in order to reflect the latest thinking in safety, and later sustainability.
The DuPont Safety and Sustainability Awards are brought to you by DuPont Sustainable Solutions (DSS), who have acted as stewards of these prestigious awards since their inception. According to Davide Vassallo, CEO of DSS, “the DuPont Safety and Sustainability Awards are widely recognized by industrial companies as a benchmark for exceptional operational performance; for us, though, it is a means of galvanizing companies to pursue improvement projects, and celebrating the achievements of companies that have developed innovative approaches to protecting their people and improving their operations. Though DSS has evolved into an independent company, we remain committed to this mission. We are proud to host this initiative, now and in the future.”
