environmental footprint and sought to better understand the carbon
impacts associated with A&E activities.
The challenge
While organisational carbon reporting was already in place, greater visibility at the operational level was needed to support informed decision-making.
The carbon impact of emergency care is influenced by multiple factors, including care pathways, resource consumption, patient flows and equipment usage. EHC lacked a practical way to translate operational data into meaningful and quantitive environmental performance indicators that could be monitored and acted upon by healthcare teams.
The approach
