What does a typical day look like as a Consultant on the Operational Risk Management team?

In general, working on projects at dss+ is very dynamic because you are involved in all stages of a project's lifecycle — proposal design, planning, delivery, quality, and financial management. Each project has its own scope, an internal team that varies, and a client with different needs, production processes, and cultures. This allows you to constantly experience situations in diverse contexts, contributing significantly to continuous learning and professional development.

Specifically, working as an Operational Risk Management Consultant means understanding how an organization behaves and how to influence it from top to bottom, identifying the risks involved in each production process and determining which control measures must be in place to keep risks under control. On one day, you might be working from home or the office leading a meeting, and on the next, you might find yourself inside a steel mill watching molten steel being poured into a mold, witnessing the construction of an oil tanker, or even boarding an offshore platform.

Why did you choose a career in consulting?

I chose to work in consulting precisely because of its dynamic nature; I didn't want a monotonous work routine. I sought the experience of feeling a sense of renewal with each new project, which challenges me and periodically pushes me out of my comfort zone. Additionally, I have the opportunity to explore various production processes, which often involves traveling and discovering new places.

Why did you join dss+?

I joined dss+ as an intern when it was still part of DuPont. What attracted me, beyond the consulting work itself, was the opportunity to help save lives by promoting safer operations — and that continues to be my motivation to this day.

What are you most proud of?

Our projects influence entire organizations to transform their culture and even their strategies in pursuit of, among other goals, providing a safe place to work. What makes me most proud is seeing the impact of my work on the client and knowing that, in some way, I contributed to ensuring that every worker returns home safely at the end of the day.

What do our values mean to you?

I see all our core values — Safety and Health, Environmental Stewardship, Respect for People, and Highest Ethical Behavior — deeply connected to both our deliverables and our daily conduct. Wherever we go, we strive to lead by example and embody our commitment to “walk our talk”.
